Coleco Gemini
!CLONE OF THE ATARI 2600!
Released - 1982
The Coleco Gemini was created in order for Coleco to regain the money they had lost (approx. 22 million dollars) when the extra million Telstar consoles they had made in advance became obsolete. Many people think that making extra systems in advance is stupid, but companies were doing it.
Coleco decided to take a gamble and clone the Atari 2600. They chose the 2600 because of it's vast popularity and success. Atari couldn't do anything about this because (just like in most cases back then) there was no copyrighted hardware in the Atari or any copyrighted software. The only difference between the Atari 2600 and the Coleco Gemini is the exterior. All the hardware is exactly the same.
